Operation And Maintenance Of Marne Shark Jaws And Towing Pins


Shark jaw is used to holding wire rope or chain tightly, and as a brake to withstand load.

When weighing anchor dropping anchor/ towing, the shark jaw rise, other times, the shark jaw pack up and remain flush with the deck, maintaining deck smoothly.


When towing winch working, extend, turn jaw to up side, connect to been towed object by wire rope, pull the end of rope to towing ship, go through the middle of two towing pins, and through two jaws. Close the jaws, camped the end of the rope (generally connecting ring), then connect towing rope and been towed object rope. Because of the been towed object rope has been clamped by shark jaw, when connecting rope, no danger of the effects of wind and wave. When finished rope connecting, tight rope by towing winch, open the jaws and turn to the sown side. Pay out proper rope, it can work for towing.

When towing, rope is always in the two towing intermediate, the rope does not swing when the ship turning, to avoid damage to the ship and the steel wire rope.


Shark jaw using step

1) Using wire rope towing

A. Start motor, run pump station;

B. Press local control box or remote control box button, raise and open the jaws, extend two towing pins, reset button when operation finished. The steel wire rope which is towed, go through two towing pins, and clamped between the shark jaws, then close the jaws, this step must be completed as soon as possible, the wire rope and the ship is in unstable state because of wind and waves, it is difficult to keep wire rope in the right spot shark jaw.

C.Connect the steel wire rope which is towed with steel wire rope on towing winch well by shack or other connecting tools, tight the wire rope by towing winch, open jaws, and turn jaws to down side.

D.When towing by ship or towing winch, the towing pins should be raised all the time, the jaws should be turned to down side, the rope is always in the two towing pins intermediate, the rope does not swing when the ship turning, to avoid damage to the ship and the steel wire rope.

E. When finished towing job, turn the jaws to up side, and clamp towing wire rope, then loose rope by towing winch, remove the rope connecting tools, open the jaws, release the towed wire rope.

F.The raised areas on towing pins and shark jaws should be covered grease, then retract pins and turn jaws to down side.

G.Stop pump station.


2) Using chain towing

A. Start motor, run pump station;

B. Extend towing pin, open jaws;

C. The chain which is towed goes through two towing pins, and clamped between the shark jaws, then closes the jaws, clamp chain;

D. Connect the chain with steel wire rope on towing winch well by shack or other connecting tools, tight the wire rope by towing winch;

E. Loosen the shark jaws, and lowered the jaws to the lowest position;

F. When towing by ship or towing winch, the towing pins should be raised all the time

G. When finished towing job, turn the jaws to up side, and clamp towing chain, then make the chain and towing wire rope off, remove the connecting tools, open the jaws, release the towed chain.

H. The raised areas on towing pins and shark jaws should be covered grease, then retract pins and turn jaws to down side.

I. Stop pump station.


Maintenance

1. The operator should know clearly the operation preparation and operation order.

2. The surface should keep clean. Unpainted surface needs to be coated with grease to prevent rust.

3. Check the rope at interval. If the rope is worn out please replace it timely.

4. Check if there is deformation or crackles on the stressed parts, check if the bolts are loosen. If yes, please repair them before working.

5. While the capstan is idle, please cover it.
