 Something On Vessel Safety

Fire Alarm

Vessels are usually equipped with fire alarm systems, especially passenger vessels. The probe is used to detect whether there is fire. Probes are generally divided into two types: smoke sensing and temperature sensing. Most of the cabins are installed with temperature sensing, but engine room and other cabins are with both. When a fire alarm is triggered, a universal alarm is triggered.

If you find a fire alarm, don't panic, the vessel itself is capable of extinguishing fire. Sprinkler systems, Carbon Dioxide systems, Fire-Fighting systems and so on can be used to put out fires. For the most part, a fire will not cause a vessel to sink quickly, unless it occurs in a relevant fuel oil tank. Remember, if there is a fire, don't go to the engine cabin, its CO2 system will release CO2 and you maybe asphyxia.

Water Alarm

The bilge is equipped with several independent bilge water over-under position alarm probes. If there is a leak in the wheelhouse and control room, the corresponding alarm will be received and thebilge system will automatically start pumping water. At this time, you can close part of the cabin doors in advance to avoid water spreading to more cabins and buy time for escape. Some vessel types, hull profession will do calculation of damaged stability, so within the certain range, even water leakage will not cause too much harm.

Abandon Vessel

Universal alarm: beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep------, repeatedly. Seven short plus one long beeps, its the signal for abandon vessel.

Most vessels are equipped with specific number of life rafts according to the actual number of people on board. Enclosed life raft will be equipped with water, compressed biscuits and other emergency supplies; Life rafts are usually barrel-shaped and can be released manually/automatically. Life jackets are standard on passenger vessels, usually placed under each seat. If abandon vessel, put on your life jacket and run to outside and upside, at the same time, carefully listen to the broadcast command, broadcast is the highest level of command, even higher than the general alarm.
