The role of the anchor is very important, which is made by cast steel, cast iron, it keeps the ship safely and reliably in scheduled areas, vessels carry one or more temporary anchors with different designs and weights. The commercial vessels normally use stockless anchor as bow anchor, danforth anchor as stern anchor.

Normally there's stocked anchor(admiralty anchor/U.S. navy anchor, single fluke anchor, Japanese anchor), stockless anchor(Hall type anchor, Speke anchor, AC-14 H.H.P anchor, DA-1 anchor, DZ-14 H.H.P balance anchor), high holding power anchor(Markov anchor, Danforth HHP anchor A type, Danforth HHP anchor B type, speedboat anchor), baldt type anchor, snug stowing anchor bald type, N type pool anchor, TW type pool anchor, welding pool anchor...etc.

1. Stocked Anchor: have a beam/cross-bar, to prevent flukes from careen, the bar acts as a stabilising force.

2. Stockless Anchor: no beam/cross-bar, flukes are moveable, this type of anchor comes with high stability, it adapts to various soils in seabed, and convenient for storage.

3. High Holding Power Anchor: have a beam/cross-bar, flukes are moveable, available for larger area, deeper and holding power is high, but flukes are easily broken, inconvenient for storage.

4. Special Anchor: for pontoon use, and more popular in blockship, icebreaker and floating dry dock, some for small boat with 316L stainless steel or 304 stainless steel material.
