On July 20, CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., together with China Shipbuilding Industry Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and the Indonesian company PT. Meratus Line, held the delivery signing ceremony in Qinzhou for Hull No. 1 of the 680TEU container ship “Meratus Lamandau”, marking the smooth on-schedule delivery of the first vessel in this series.
The vessel has an overall length of 124.4 meters and a moulded breadth of 22.8 meters. She is classed by RINA and is equipped with two MacGregor 40-ton cranes. She can carry ordinary dry containers, dangerous-goods containers and refrigerated containers, and will mainly serve Southeast Asia routes. This series represents a deepened cooperation between PT.Meratus Line and our company following the 693TEU container ship project. A total of ten 680TEU container ships have been ordered, fully demonstrating the owner’s recognition of the company’s technical strength and contract-performance capability.
During construction of this vessel, the project team innovatively set up a three-tier production-technology preparation mechanism, coordinating the advance preparation of drawings, materials and equipment to ensure the orderly supply of materials from the source. A new process of grand-block assembly on the slipway was fully adopted, greatly improving the efficiency of hull erection. The slipway lifting cycle was shortened by more than ten days, setting a record of erecting four grand blocks in three days. In addition, 90% of the outfitting work was integrated into the grand-block stage, reducing the frequency of concurrent operations by nearly 30%. During the quayside outfitting stage, the project team and the higher-level technical team applied an innovative collaborative management model of “large projects driving small projects”. To meet the challenge of installing two additional deck cranes, ground assembly was completed in just four days and the integral lift was achieved in a single day. At the same time, quayside procedures were optimized and a digital container fitting trial process was introduced, effectively shortening the overall commissioning period. During the sea trial, the round-trip voyage and all test tasks were completed in only 44 hours. Throughout the entire production management process, the project team held daily single-vessel progress meetings and organized weekly communication meetings with the shipowner. Closed-loop control of the issue list was enforced, ensuring that problems were resolved on the same day and quickly closed out, and efficiently addressing the requirements of both the shipowner and the classification society.

Close cross-departmental and cross-team collaboration was the core secret behind the on-time and high-quality delivery of this vessel. All team members took initiative and responsibility, with the Party flag guiding the production charge. Through refined management, innovative processes and integrated collaboration, the construction tasks at every key milestone were successfully completed. The successful delivery of the first vessel not only fully demonstrates the highly coordinated problem-solving capability of CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding’s shipbuilding segment, but also accumulates valuable experience for building the follow-on vessels in the series.
Looking ahead, CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. will take this as a new starting point, comprehensively review the entire construction process, and turn the experience gained from the first vessel into standards and specifications for the subsequent ships. Seizing the momentum and continuing to strive for excellence, the company will carry out the construction of follow-up vessels with higher standards and stricter control, constantly setting new records in contract fulfillment and achieving new outstanding results.
