Operation of the Gravity Luffing Arm Type Davit


1. Launching boat


1-1. No one is permitted to stand under the lifeboat during whole operating process so as to ensure the personnel safety, all obstacle should be removed while operating
1-2. Starting
1-2-1. Open stop handle of the stop unit on the davit, first start winch manually to hoist the lifeboat (at this moment, the manual handle is in position A) so as to ensure the stop rod of stop unit to be unloaded (Upon the completion of manual operating, the manual handle must be removed). Pull the fixed pin on the count weight handle out, then open the stop unit of davit.
1-2-2. Loose the fastening unit to release all lashing riggings of the lifeboat.


2. Lowering boat


2-1. Embarking
2-1-1. Upon the completion of preparations mentioned as above, the passenger put on life jackets and quickly arrive muster station as the green pass mark specified by shipyard, and enter into the lifeboat in order under command of workers on parent ship. The passengers within the boat must sit down and fasten safety belt.
2-2 Lowering boat
After all passengers enter into the lifeboat, the lifeboat operator pull the remote control nylon rope in the boat or the operator on board control the remote control unit on board to raise counter weight of the boat winch to release the winch brake. Due to the action of the gravity of lifeboat, the davit arm will turn out to outboard with the lifeboat together, the operators continue to pull the nylon rope to ensure the lifeboat to lower till to water surface, open the hook on the boat and ensure the boat to separate from the davit, the lifeboat may leave the parent ship so as to escape.


3. Recovering boat


3-1. When the boat sails under the davit (boat bow is at the direction of ship bow), two crew on the boat hold the boat fall chain respectively to couple them on the hook. When the floating block’s own weight cannot overcome the frictional moment caused by drum rotating reversibly, only by raising counterweight E, and inserting the manual handle into position B, then the empty hook will be lowered down quickly (Upon the completion of manual operating, the manual handle must be taken out). If rapid recovery unit is provided for recovering rescue boat, its detailed operating method is shown as part II of this manual.
3-2. The winch operator on board stands by the rail and always observes the boat. Press winch button to tighten the boat falls to hoist the boat, then continue to tighten to ensure the floating block pushing the head of davit arm and make the davit arm be turned in from outboard position to inboard position. When the davit arms reach their final position, the limit switch will actuate to cut off the power to boat winch and make the boat winch stop rotating. At this time if the lifeboat doesn’t come back to its stowed position, a manual handle may be used to hoist till the lifeboat reaches its stowed position (The manual handle is at position A). The crew will come back to parent ship).
3-3. In case of hoisting electrically, if the power on ship is abruptly cut off, the manual handle may be used to recover boat by manual (The manual handle is inserted into position A).
3-4. After the lifeboat reach its stowed position, by means of employing the stop unit of davit arm to fix the davit arm. Then the winch operator raise the counter weight slowly, and the lifeboat lowers slowly to ensure the ‘T’ type hook of floating engage on the plate on the head of davit arm, and the boat falls is under the condition of un-loaded.
3-5. Two crews are left for employing the fastening unit and gripe lashing unit to fix lifeboat. Then cut off power and ensure the ship under normal sailing condition.


4. Operating procedure of recovery appliance


4-1. In order to avoid the heavy boat block damaging during hanging on hook under foul weather, the aux. nylon rope is to be firstly attached on the main hook prior to recovering rescue boat, then start boat winch and rapidly hoist the rescue boat near the boat deck so as to enable the crew within the boat connect one end of the auxiliary rope to the auxiliary hook on the boat smoothly.
4-2. Fit aux. rope into aux. hook , release the winch brake to ensure the boat slowly lower till all weights apply on the auxiliary rope. At this time, the boat has been close to the shipboard, and the person within the boat can embark the parent ship smoothly.
4-3. With the aux. hook on-loaded, take off the aux. nylon rope and lower the boat falls till the boat falls re-hang into the main hook.
4-4. Hoist the boat winch to ensure the be loaded, disengage aux. rope from aux. hook, then reset the boat to original stowed position.
