BS42-28 Marine Overcoat Polyurethane Deck Paint

Product Description

BS42-28 Marine Overcoat Polyurethane Deck Paint

Product Introduction:

BS42-28 is a high-performance, two-pack aliphatic polyurethane deck paint specifically engineered to deliver exceptional durability, superior weather resistance, and outstanding long-term recoatability for marine deck applications. This premium coating formulation utilises advanced polyurethane technology to provide a tough, resilient surface that withstands the rigorous demands of heavy foot traffic, equipment movement, and constant exposure to harsh marine environmental conditions including intense UV radiation, salt spray, and temperature fluctuations. The aliphatic polyurethane chemistry ensures excellent colour retention and gloss stability over extended service intervals, maintaining a professional, aesthetically pleasing appearance throughout the coating's service life. One of the key distinguishing features of BS42-28 is its superior long-term recoatability, which allows for straightforward overcoating of aged existing coatings with minimal surface preparation, significantly simplifying maintenance operations and reducing vessel downtime during refit and repair cycles. With a VOC content of less than 390g/L, this environmentally compliant formulation meets stringent international standards while delivering robust, long-lasting protection. The coating is supplied as a two-component system with a volume solids content of 60% ± 2%, and is available in a wide range of colours (multicolor option) to suit diverse aesthetic and safety identification requirements for commercial, naval, and leisure vessels.

Intended Uses:

BS42-28 is specifically formulated for marine deck applications, including:

*Deck areas – designed for all exposed deck surfaces requiring durable protection.

*Newbuilding – ideal for application on newly constructed vessels.

*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for refit, refurbishment, and deck renovation projects.

*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep operations.

Method Of Application:

For application of BS42-28, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.38–0.53mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, BX-28 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. BX-28 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:

1.All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. High-pressure fresh water washing or appropriate fresh water washing should be carried out, and all oil, grease, soluble contaminants, and other foreign matter must be removed in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning standards.

2.For Newbuilding / Major Refurbishment: BS42-28 should be applied over a recommended primer coating scheme. The primer surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval . Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BS42-28.

3.For Repair / On Board Maintenance: BS42-28 should be applied over a recommended primer coating scheme. The primer surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval (consult the relevant product data sheet). Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to application.

4.BS42-28 may also be applied directly over aged BS42-28 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. Before applying the full coat, BS42-28 or an appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas.

Application Conditions & Limitations:

*Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%.

*Important: This product is not recommended for use in immersed conditions (submerged applications).

*When applying BS42-28 by brush or roller, for some colours, two coats may be required to achieve uniform coverage, especially when applying over dark undercoats. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Refer to the relevant product data sheet for specific shelf life information.
