H45-02 Marine Drinking Water Tank Coating

Product Description

H45-02 Drinking Water Tank Coating

Product Introduction:

H45-02 Drinking Water Tank Coating is a two-component, high-build epoxy coating specifically formulated for the protection of drinking water tanks on vessels. Potable water storage presents unique challenges for coating systems – the coating must not only provide exceptional corrosion protection in a continuously immersed, aqueous environment but also must be completely safe for human consumption, without leaching any harmful substances or imparting undesirable taste or odor to the water.

This product has been rigorously tested and approved by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China for use in contact with potable water, holding the official Hygienic License for Drinking Water Safety Products. This certification confirms that the coating meets stringent health and safety standards, ensuring that water stored in coated tanks remains safe for crew and passengers.

The coating features a high volume solids content of 72%, enabling single-coat dry film thicknesses of up to 250 μm. This high-build capability reduces the number of coats required, minimizes application time and labor costs, and ensures a seamless, pinhole-free barrier against water penetration. Its formulation is specifically designed to provide long-term protection against corrosion, bacterial growth, and water contamination, maintaining the integrity of both the tank structure and the water quality.

With a low VOC content of less than 250 g/L, this environmentally responsible coating also contributes to safer application conditions and reduced emissions. Available in white and pink, it offers excellent visibility inside tanks, facilitating inspection and maintenance.

Key Features:

1.Potable Water Approved: Certified by the Ministry of Health for contact with drinking water – safe for human consumption, no harmful leachates, and no taste/odor impact.

2.High Solids: Volume solids of 72% ± 2%, enabling high film builds (up to 250 μm DFT) in a single coat.

3.Excellent Corrosion Protection: Provides long-term protection against water immersion and corrosion in continuously wet environments.

4.Low VOC: VOC content less than 250 g/L, meeting environmental and workplace safety standards.

5.Gloss Finish: High-gloss, smooth surface is easy to clean and inspect; white/pink colors improve visibility inside tanks.

6.Versatile Application: Suitable for airless spray (tip size 0.38–0.53 mm, pressure ≥17 MPa) and brush/roller for small areas.

7.Cathodic Protection Compatible: Suitable for use with impressed current or sacrificial anode cathodic protection systems.

Film Thickness & Theoretical Coverage:

Parameter Minimum Standard Maximum
Dry Film Thickness (DFT) 80 μm 125 μm 250 μm
Wet Film Thickness (WFT) 111 μm 173 μm 346 μm
Theoretical Coverage 9 m²/L 5.8 m²/L 2.9 m²/L

Recommended Use:

This product is specifically formulated for the corrosion protection of drinking water tanks on vessels, including:

*Potable water storage tanks on all types of ships and offshore platforms.

*Freshwater tanks where water quality must meet human consumption standards.

*Newbuilding, maintenance & repair, and onboard maintenance projects.

*Other potable water contact applications subject to health certification requirements.

Surface Preparation & Application:

1.Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, and soluble contaminants (per SSPC-SP1).

2.For newbuilding: abrasive blast clean to Sa2½ (GB/T 8923.1-2011). Weld seams may be cleaned to St3 using power tools. Apply coating before oxidation occurs on blasted surfaces.

3.For repair work: clean to P St3 by mechanical method or P Sa2½ by abrasive blasting (GB/T 8923.2-2008). Abrade surrounding areas to provide a key for subsequent coating application.

4.Apply when surface temperature is at least 3°C above dew point and relative humidity is below 85%.

5.No induction period is required after mixing.

Limitations:

1.Curing: Will not cure adequately below 5°C. For maximum performance, ambient curing temperature should be above 10°C.

2.UV Exposure: Like all epoxy coatings, 725-H45-02 will exhibit surface chalking upon prolonged UV exposure. It is not recommended as a topcoat for exterior, sunlight-exposed surfaces without a suitable UV-resistant finish.

3.Drying and overcoating intervals may vary with on-site environmental conditions.

Storage & Packaging:

*Shelf life: 12 months minimum at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).

*Packaging: Part A – 24 kg / 13.5 L in 20 L container; Part B – 6 kg / 6.5 L in 6 L container.

*Flash point (mixed): > 31°C.
