BA50-27 Marine TBT-Free SPC Antifouling Coating

Product Description

BA50-27 Marine TBT-Free SPC Antifouling Coating

Product Introduction:

BA50-27 is a premium-grade, tin-free self-polishing copolymer (SPC) antifouling coating developed for superior fouling control on commercial vessels, naval ships, and pleasure craft operating in aggressive marine environments. The coating is built upon advanced self-polishing copolymer technology, which delivers a consistent and controlled release of bioactive compounds over an extended period. As the polymer matrix gradually hydrolyses in seawater, it continuously exposes a fresh, biologically active surface, preventing the attachment of hard fouling organisms such as barnacles and tubeworms, as well as soft fouling like algae and slime. This self-renewing mechanism ensures that the hull remains smooth throughout the coating's service life, resulting in reduced frictional drag, lower fuel consumption, and extended dry-docking intervals. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, BA50-27 aligns with global environmental directives while delivering robust anti-corrosion and anti-fouling protection. The coating is supplied as a ready-to-use single-pack system with a volume solids content of 56% ± 2%, and is available in Red (5310R) and Brown (5310B) with a matt finish. No induction period is required prior to application.

Intended Uses:

BA50-27 is suitable for a wide spectrum of marine applications, including:

*Newbuilding – ideal for coating newly constructed vessels.

*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for dry-dock repair and refit projects.

*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep.

Method Of Application:

For application of BA50-27, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.54–0.8mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, HX-501 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. HX-501 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:

For Newbuilding: BA50-27 should be applied over a recommended tie-coat scheme. The coating surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval . Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BA50-27.

For Repair: BA50-27 may be applied directly over aged BA50-27 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. An appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas before applying the full coat.

Application Conditions & Limitations:

Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%. For hull sections exposed to direct sunlight, the final coat of BA50-27 should be immersed within 30 days after drying. If this period is exceeded, antifouling performance may be impaired. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
