BA50-35 Marine TBT-Free SPC Antifouling Coating
Product Description
BA50-35 Marine TBT-Free SPC Antifouling Coating
Product Introduction:
BA50-35 is a high-performance, tin-free self-polishing copolymer (SPC) antifouling coating formulated with advanced Silyl Acrylate polymer technology to deliver superior fouling protection and long-term hull performance. This state-of-the-art coating utilises a unique hydrolytic self-polishing mechanism that ensures a consistent and controlled release of bioactive compounds throughout its service life. As the polymer backbone gradually hydrolyses upon contact with seawater, it continuously renews the coating surface, exposing fresh biologically active sites that effectively prevent the settlement and growth of hard fouling organisms such as barnacles and tubeworms, as well as soft fouling including algae, slime, and diatoms. This self-smoothing action maintains an exceptionally sleek hull profile, substantially reducing frictional drag and optimising fuel economy over extended periods between dry-docking intervals. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, BA50-35 fully complies with contemporary environmental regulations while delivering robust, long-lasting antifouling and anti-corrosion protection across diverse operating conditions. The coating is supplied as a convenient ready-to-use single-pack system with a volume solids content of 56% ± 2%, and is available in two standard colours: Red (5350R) and Brown (5350B), with a matt finish. No induction period is required prior to application, facilitating efficient and straightforward application.
Intended Uses:
BA50-35 is suitable for a wide spectrum of marine applications, including:
*Newbuilding – ideal for coating newly constructed commercial and naval vessels.
*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for dry-dock repair, overhaul, and refit projects.
*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep and touch-up operations.
Method Of Application:
For application of BA50-35, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.54–0.8mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, HX-501 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. HX-501 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:
For Newbuilding: BA50-35 should be applied over a recommended tie-coat scheme. The coating surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval. Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BA50-35.
For Repair: BA50-35 may be applied directly over aged BA50-35 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. An appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas before applying the full coat.
Application Conditions & Limitations:
Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%. For hull sections exposed to direct sunlight, the final coat of BA50-35 should be immersed within 30 days after drying. If this period is exceeded, antifouling performance may be impaired. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
