BE50-37 Marine Copper-Free Low Friction Self-Polishing Antifouling

Product Description

BE50-37 Marine Copper-Free Low Friction Self-Polishing Antifouling

Product Introduction:

BE50-37 is a premium-grade, copper-free, low-friction self-polishing antifouling coating developed to deliver outstanding fouling protection while maximising operational efficiency through significant drag reduction. This advanced formulation utilises state-of-the-art self-polishing copolymer technology that progressively and uniformly polishes the coating surface during service, continuously exposing fresh active sites that release biocides in a controlled and sustained manner. This dynamic self-renewing action effectively prevents the colonisation of both hard fouling organisms such as barnacles, mussels, and tubeworms, as well as soft fouling including algae, slime, and diatoms. The exceptionally smooth, low-friction surface generated by the polishing process substantially reduces hydrodynamic drag, resulting in measurable fuel savings, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and enhanced vessel speed performance over extended operational periods between dry-docking intervals. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, BE50-37 complies with rigorous international environmental regulations while providing robust, long-term anti-corrosion and antifouling protection across a wide range of sea conditions. The coating is supplied as a convenient single-pack system with a volume solids content of 56% ± 2%, and is available in three standard colours: Grey (E370G), Blue (E370B), and Red (E370R), with a matt finish. No induction period is required prior to application, facilitating rapid and efficient application.

Intended Uses:

BE50-37 is suitable for a comprehensive range of marine applications, including:

*Newbuilding – ideal for coating newly constructed commercial vessels, naval ships, and workboats.

*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for dry-dock repair, retrofit, and refurbishment projects.

*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service touch-up and maintenance operations.

Method Of Application:

For application of BE50-37, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.48–0.63mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, HX-501 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. HX-501 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:

For Newbuilding: BE50-37 should be applied over a recommended tie-coat scheme. The coating surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval . Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BE50-37.

For Repair: BE50-37 may be applied directly over aged BE50-37 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. An appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas before applying the full coat.

Application Conditions & Limitations:

Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%. For hull sections exposed to direct sunlight, the final coat of BE50-37 should be immersed within 30 days after drying. If this period is exceeded, antifouling performance may be impaired. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
