BH50-17 Marine Tin-Free Self-Polishing Antifouling Coating
Product Description
BH50-17 Marine Tin-Free Self-Polishing Antifouling Coating
Product Introduction:
BH50-17 is a high-performance, tin-free self-polishing antifouling coating based on advanced Silyl Acrylate polymer technology. This premium-grade marine coating is specifically formulated to provide exceptional fouling protection for vessel hulls operating in all sea conditions. The unique self-polishing copolymer (SPC) mechanism ensures a controlled, steady release of biocides over an extended service life, resulting in a consistently smooth hull surface that minimizes frictional resistance and significantly reduces fuel consumption. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, BH50-17 complies with stringent environmental regulations while delivering outstanding anti-corrosion performance and long-term hull protection. The coating is available in two standard colours: Red (3530R) and Brown (3530B), with a matt finish and a volume solids content of 56% ± 2%. It is supplied as a ready-to-use single-pack formulation, requiring no induction period prior to application.
Intended Uses:
BH50-17 is designed for a wide range of marine applications, including:
*Newbuilding – ideal for application on newly constructed vessels.
*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for dry-dock repair work.
*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep.
Method Of Application:
For application of BH50-17, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.54–0.8mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, BX-801 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. BX-801 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:
For Newbuilding: BH50-17 should be applied over a recommended tie-coat scheme. The coating surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval . Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BH50-17.
For Repair: BH50-17 may be applied directly over aged BH50-17 coatings, provided the existing coating is sound and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. An appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas before applying the full coat.
Application Conditions & Limitations:
1.Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%.
2.For hull sections exposed to direct sunlight, the final coat of BH50-17 should be immersed within 30 days after drying. If this period is exceeded, antifouling performance may be impaired.
3.Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions.
4.Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or high-humidity environments. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
