B43-9 Marine Acrylic Finish

Product Description

B43-9 Marine Acrylic Finish

Product Introduction:

B43-9 is a quick-drying, single-pack acrylic finish coating specifically formulated to provide superior decorative protection for ship superstructures and all above-water marine areas. This high-performance topcoat delivers an attractive gloss finish that significantly enhances the aesthetic appearance of vessels while offering excellent weather resistance against harsh marine conditions, including prolonged UV exposure, salt spray, and atmospheric pollutants. The fast-drying nature of B43-9 enables rapid application and recoat cycles, minimising vessel downtime during newbuilding, maintenance, or repair operations. The coating's single-pack formulation eliminates the need for complex mixing procedures, simplifying application and reducing the risk of on-site errors. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, B43-9 complies with contemporary environmental standards while providing durable, long-lasting colour retention and gloss stability that maintains its protective and decorative properties over extended service intervals. This versatile acrylic finish is available in a wide range of colours (multicolor option) to meet diverse aesthetic and identification requirements for commercial, naval, and pleasure vessels.

Intended Uses:

B43-9 is designed for a variety of marine applications, including:

*Above-water areas – specifically formulated for all superstructure and topside surfaces.

*Newbuilding – ideal for final finishing on newly constructed vessels.

*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for refit, refurbishment, and touch-up projects.

*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep operations.

Method Of Application:

For application of B43-9, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.38–0.53mm and an output pressure of at least 15 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, BX-901 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. BX-901 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from contamination.

*For Primed Surfaces: The primer surface must be dry and free from all contamination. B43-9 must be applied within the specified overcoating intervals . Areas of breakdown, damage, or deterioration should be prepared to the specified standard, such as Sa2.5 (abrasive blasting standard per GB/T 8923.1-2011) or power tool cleaning, and patch-primed prior to the application of B43-9.

*For Repair: B43-9 should be applied over a recommended primer coating scheme. The primer surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified coating interval. Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to application. B43-9 may also be applied directly over aged B43-9 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge, and an appropriate primer should be used to repair the area before applying the full coat.

Application Conditions & Limitations:

Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%. When applying B43-9 by brush or roller, care is required to prevent pick-up or lifting of recently applied single-pack coatings. For some colours, particularly when applying over dark undercoats, two coats of B43-9 may be required to achieve uniform coverage and optimal hiding power. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is a minimum of 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
