Product Introduction:

H53-38 is a high-solids, high-build, two-pack epoxy glass flake anticorrosive coating engineered for the most demanding offshore and marine environments. Its unique glass flake reinforcement provides exceptional abrasion resistance and superior chemical protection, making it a reliable barrier against corrosion, mechanical impact, and aggressive atmospheric conditions. This coating has successfully passed the rigorous NORSOK M501 test, a critical industry standard for corrosion protection systems used in offshore applications. With a VOC content of less than 150 g/L, it represents an environmentally responsible choice without compromising on protective performance. The product is specifically formulated for the long-term protection of steel structures exposed to severe marine conditions, offering outstanding durability, excellent edge retention, and resistance to cathodic disbondment. It has a high volume solids content of 84% ± 2% and provides a glossy finish. The product is supplied as a two-component system with a mix ratio of 4:1 by volume (6.4:1 by mass), and requires no induction period, allowing for immediate mixing and application on site for efficient project execution.


The product is supplied in a convenient two-component packaging system: Part A (base) is provided in 25.6 kg / 16 L within a 20 L container, while Part B (curing agent) comes in 4 kg / 4 L within a 6 L container. Regarding safety and handling, the flash points for Part A, Part B, and the mixed paint are all greater than 31°C, which should be taken into account during storage and application to ensure proper fire prevention measures are in place.


Intended Uses:

*For protection of steel structures in offshore platforms, marine bridges, wind power facilities, and other marine installations.

*Suitable for both new construction and maintenance/repair applications on carbon steel and concrete substrates.


Method Of Application:

*Airless Spray (Recommended): Tip size range 0.45–0.68 mm, output pressure ≥17 MPa.

*Air Spray: Tip size range 2.0–3.0 mm, output pressure ≥0.4 MPa.

*Brush/Roller: Suitable for small areas only.

*Thinner/Cleaner: Thinning is not recommended. Use HX-501 only in exceptional circumstances (maximum 5% by volume). Cleaner is also HX-501.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight, heat sources, and fire. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is a minimum of 12 months at 25°C, subject to re-inspection thereafter.

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. High pressure fresh water wash or fresh water wash, as appropriate, shall be carried out, and all oil, grease, soluble contaminants, and other foreign matter shall be removed in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.


*Abrasive Blast Cleaning for Steel: Abrasive blast clean to Sa 2½ (GB/T 8923.1-2011). If oxidation has occurred between blasting and the application of the primer, the surface should be reblasted to the specified visual standard. Surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning process should be ground, filled, or treated in the appropriate manner.


*Mechanical Cleaning for Steel (Repair): The areas to be repaired should be cleaned to P St3 (GB/T 8923.2-2008) by mechanical method. Abrade the area immediately surrounding the repair to provide a key for subsequent coating application. Overlap areas should be kept to a minimum.


*Mechanical Cleaning for Concrete: The surface can be abraded by power tool or washed by low-pressure water to remove loose concrete, attached organisms, mud, and other contaminants. If necessary, accomplish by scrubbing with scour or chemical washing to remove oils, grease, wax, fatty acids, and other contaminations. The areas to be repaired should have loose powder of the cement, attached organisms, mud, oil or grease, and other foreign matter removed thoroughly. Abrade the area immediately surrounding the repair to provide a key for subsequent coating application, keeping overlap areas to a minimum.


Limitations:

1.This product will not cure adequately below -5°C. For maximum performance, ambient curing temperature should be above 5°C.


2.In common with all epoxy-based coatings, H53-38 will exhibit chalking of the film upon UV exposure (surface degradation, not a functional failure).


3.Apply only in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity must be below 85%.


4.Drying times and overcoating intervals may change according to on-site environmental factors.


Health And Safety:

Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapors or paint mist. Prevent skin and eye contact with the product. Ensure adequate ventilation and take proper fire prevention measures during application.
