H06-21 Marine Epoxy Zinc Rich Primer

Product Description

H06-21 Marine Epoxy Zinc Rich Primer

Product Introduction:

H06-21 is a fast-curing, two-pack zinc-rich epoxy primer specifically formulated to deliver exceptional cathodic protection to steel structures in atmospheric environments. This high-performance coating is available in three zinc content variants – 80%, 70%, and 60% zinc in the dry film – allowing users to select the optimal level of protection based on specific project requirements and exposure conditions. All variants provide outstanding anticorrosive and mechanical properties, effectively safeguarding steel substrates against corrosion through sacrificial protection. The product is designed for ease of application and rapid curing, enabling efficient project execution. It exhibits excellent adhesion to properly prepared steel surfaces and provides a strong foundation for subsequent topcoat systems. With a VOC content of less than 380 g/L across all variants, it balances high performance with environmental responsibility. This primer is widely trusted in heavy-duty industrial and marine applications, offering long-term durability and reliable corrosion resistance. The product has a volume solids content of 60% ± 2% and provides a matte (no gloss) finish. It is supplied as a two-component system with a mix ratio of 3.3:1 by volume (10:1 by mass).

The product is supplied in a convenient two-component packaging system: Part A (base) is provided in 32.5 kg / 11.5 L within a 20 L container, while Part B (curing agent) comes in 3.2 kg / 3.5 L within a 6 L container. Regarding safety and handling, the flash points for Part A, Part B, and the mixed paint are all greater than 31°C, which should be taken into account during storage and application to ensure proper fire prevention measures are in place.

Intended Uses:

*For protection of steel structures used in atmospheric environments.

*For protection of steel structures in offshore facilities, petrochemical plants, power generation, bridge construction, and building engineering.

Method Of Application:

1.Airless Spray (Recommended): Tip size range 0.38–0.53 mm, output pressure ≥15 MPa.

2.Air Spray: Tip size range 2.0–3.0 mm, output pressure ≥0.4 MPa.

3.Brush/Roller: Suitable for small areas only.

4.Thinner/Cleaner: Thinning is not recommended. Use HX-501 only in exceptional circumstances (maximum 5% by volume). Cleaner is also HX-501.

Storage:

Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight, heat sources, and fire. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is a minimum of 12 months at 25°C, subject to re-inspection thereafter.

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. High pressure fresh water wash or fresh water wash, as appropriate, shall be carried out, and all oil, grease, soluble contaminants, and other foreign matter shall be removed in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.

*Abrasive Blast Cleaning: Abrasive blast clean to Sa 2½ (GB/T 8923.1-2011). If oxidation has occurred between blasting and application of H06-21, the surface should be reblasted to the specified visual standard. Surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning process should be ground, filled, or treated in the appropriate manner.

*Mechanical Cleaning (Repair): The areas to be repaired should be cleaned to P St3 (GB/T 8923.2-2008) by mechanical method. Abrade the area immediately surrounding the repair to provide a key for subsequent coating application. Overlap areas should be kept to a minimum.

Limitations:

1.This product will not cure adequately below 5°C. For maximum performance, ambient curing temperature should be above 10°C.

2.Apply only in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity must be below 85%.

3.Before overcoating H06-21, the surface must be clean, dry, and free of zinc salts.

4.Part A may generate gas when stored at high temperatures. Care should be taken when opening containers.

5.H06-21 will react with acid or alkali solutions. Avoid contact with these substances.

6.Drying times and overcoating intervals may change according to on-site environmental factors.

Health And Safety:

Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapors or paint mist. Prevent skin and eye contact with the product. Ensure adequate ventilation and take proper fire prevention measures during application.
