H44-83 High-Build Epoxy Coal Tar Pitch Anticorrosive Paint
Product Description
H44-83 High-Build Epoxy Coal Tar Pitch Anticorrosive Paint
Product Introduction:
H44-83 High-Build Epoxy Coal Tar Pitch Anticorrosive Paint is a two-component, high-build epoxy coal tar pitch coating that synergistically combines the best attributes of two proven technologies: the toughness, excellent adhesion, and chemical resistance of epoxy resin with the outstanding water resistance and anti-permeability of coal tar pitch. This unique formulation results in a heavy-duty anticorrosive coating that provides exceptional protection in some of the most aggressive environments encountered in industrial and marine applications.
The coating features an exceptionally high volume solids content of 75%, enabling single-coat dry film thicknesses of up to 300 μm. This high-build capability dramatically reduces the number of coats required, minimizes application time and labor costs, and accelerates project completion – a significant advantage for large-scale infrastructure projects such as pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore structures.
Coal tar pitch, a key component of this formulation, is renowned for its near-impermeable barrier against moisture and ionic species. When combined with the cross-linked network of epoxy resin, the resultant film offers outstanding resistance to seawater, freshwater, brine, and a wide range of chemicals, making it an ideal choice for submerged and buried service conditions. The coating also demonstrates excellent compatibility with cathodic protection systems, ensuring long-term integrity even in the presence of stray currents or galvanic corrosion.
This product has been formulated with environmental compliance in mind, featuring a low VOC content of less than 255 g/L. It is designed for heavy-duty anti-corrosion applications in petrochemical plants, power plants, and other industrial facilities where long-term, maintenance-free protection is required.
Key Features:
1.Ultra-High Solids: Volume solids of 75% ± 2%, enabling high film builds (up to 300 μm DFT) in a single coat, significantly reducing application time and labor costs.
2.Exceptional Water Resistance: The coal tar pitch component provides an impermeable barrier against seawater, freshwater, and brine, making it ideal for submerged and buried service.
3.Outstanding Corrosion Protection: Combines epoxy adhesion and chemical resistance with coal tar pitch's anti-permeability for long-term heavy-duty corrosion protection.
4.Low VOC: VOC content less than 255 g/L, meeting environmental compliance standards.
5.Cathodic Protection Compatible: Fully compatible with cathodic protection systems, suitable for pipelines and structures with impressed current or sacrificial anode protection.
6.Versatile Application: Suitable for airless spray (tip size 0.38–0.53 mm, pressure ≥17 MPa) and brush/roller for small areas.
7.Semi-Gloss Finish: Provides a smooth, semi-gloss surface with good appearance.
8.Substrate Versatility: Suitable for application on both steel and concrete surfaces.
Film Thickness & Theoretical Coverage:
| Parameter | Minimum | Standard | Maximum |
| Dry Film Thickness (DFT) | 80 μm | 125 μm | 300 μm |
| Wet Film Thickness (WFT) | 107 μm | 167 μm | 400 μm |
| Theoretical Coverage | 9.4 m²/L | 5.6 m²/L | 2.5 m²/L |
Recommended Use:
This product is specifically formulated for heavy-duty anticorrosive applications, with primary uses including:
*Buried pipelines and equipment – providing long-term protection against soil corrosion and moisture ingress.
*Petrochemical plants – protecting storage tanks, process equipment, and piping systems exposed to aggressive chemicals.
*Power plants – for steel structures, cooling water systems, and other equipment in corrosive environments.
*Marine applications – suitable for ballast tanks, cargo tanks, and underwater hull areas (requires compatible topcoat system).
*Concrete structures – as a protective coating for wastewater treatment facilities, secondary containment areas, and industrial floors.
Surface Preparation & Application:
1.Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, and soluble contaminants (per SSPC-SP1).
2.For steel: Abrasive blast clean to Sa2½ (GB/T 8923.1-2011). If oxidation occurs between blasting and application, reblast to the specified standard. Surface defects should be ground, filled, or treated appropriately.
3.For repair work (steel): Clean to P St3 by mechanical method (GB/T 8923.2-2008) and abrade surrounding areas for proper adhesion.
4.For concrete: Abrade by power tool or wash with low-pressure water to remove loose cement, attached organisms, and contaminants. Remove oil/grease by scrubbing or chemical washing as necessary. Repair areas should be thoroughly cleaned and abraded.
5.Apply when surface temperature is at least 3°C above dew point and relative humidity is below 85%.
6.Induction period: 40 minutes at 10°C, 20 minutes at 25°C, 10 minutes at 35°C.
Limitations:
*Curing: Will not cure adequately below 5°C. For maximum performance, ambient curing temperature should be above 10°C.
*UV Exposure: Like all epoxy-based coatings, 725-H44-83 will exhibit surface chalking upon prolonged UV exposure. It should be overcoated with a UV-resistant topcoat for exterior, sunlight-exposed applications.
*Drying and overcoating intervals may vary with on-site environmental conditions.
*Health & Safety: Contains coal tar pitch; ensure adequate ventilation and use appropriate personal protective equipment during application.
Storage & Packaging:
*Shelf life: 12 months minimum at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
*Packaging: Part A – 20.7 kg / 13.5 L in 20 L container; Part B – 6.9 kg / 6.5 L in 10 L container.
*Flash point (mixed): > 31°C.
