The Hybrid Drive has two different drives: Diesel-direct en Diesel/LNG electric. Both propulsion systems can be used within their optimum yield curves and the asynchronous electric motor can also be used as a generator.
An additional advantage of the Hybrid Drive is that the asynchronous electric motor can also be used as a generator. When the main engine is in operation, but not running at maximum power there is capacity available to use the electric motor as a propeller shaft generator, which will consume hardly any additional fuel.
The system is also suitable for driving the electric motor through batteries. The batteries can be connected directly on the DC bus of the inverter, allowing sailing without engines running.
