6×K36WS Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope

Product Description

6×K36WS Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope

Product Introduction:

The 6×K36WS Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope is a high-performance steel wire rope meticulously engineered for the most demanding marine, offshore, and heavy-lifting applications. Manufactured to the rigorous requirements of YB/T 5359-2020 – the Chinese national standard for compacted strand ropes – this product combines exceptional flexibility, superior fatigue resistance, and outstanding breaking strength, making it the preferred choice for critical operations where reliability is paramount.

The 6×K36WS Class is widely recognized as a highly flexible wire rope with excellent resistance to bending fatigue, thanks to its large number of outer wires (typically 36 wires per strand in a Warrington-Seale configuration). This makes it ideally suited for applications involving multiple sheaves, small pulley diameters, and high-speed operations – common in shipboard cranes, offshore winches, and cargo handling systems.

Construction & Design:

The 6×K36WS Class wire rope features a 6-strand Warrington-Seale (WS) construction, with each strand composed of 36 wires arranged in a sophisticated configuration. The Warrington-Seale design combines wires of different diameters – typically larger outer wires for abrasion resistance and smaller inner wires for flexibility – creating a dense, stable strand structure that delivers the best possible balance between wear resistance and bending fatigue performance.

The Rope Is Available With Two Core Options:

*FC (Fibre Core) – Natural or synthetic fiber core providing superior internal lubrication, excellent flexibility, and shock absorption, ideal for multi-layer winding and applications requiring high flexibility

*IWRC (Independent Wire Rope Core) – Steel wire core delivering higher breaking loads, reduced structural stretch, and superior resistance to crushing and heat, perfect for heavy-duty hoisting and high-tension operations

The compacting process – achieved through die-drawing or roller-compacting – densifies each strand, increasing the metallic cross-sectional area while creating a remarkably smooth, uniform outer surface. This compaction significantly reduces internal friction, enhances load distribution, and minimizes surface wear on both the rope and its sheaves/drums.

Core Advantages:

1. Superior Flexibility & Bending Fatigue Resistance

With 36 wires per strand, the 6×K36WS Class offers exceptional flexibility – significantly higher than 6×19 or 6×25 classes. This allows the rope to operate efficiently over smaller sheaves and drums, making it ideal for complex reeving systems common in marine cranes and hoists.

2. Excellent Abrasion Resistance

The Warrington-Seale design places larger outer wires on the strand surface, providing outstanding resistance to abrasive wear from sheaves, drums, and contact with deck structures. This extends service life in harsh marine environments.

3. High Breaking Load from Compaction

The compacted strand structure increases the metallic cross-sectional area, delivering a substantially higher breaking load compared to conventional non-compacted ropes of the same diameter – typically 20–30% higher.

4. Outstanding Crush Resistance

The compacted, dense strand structure combined with the optional IWRC provides excellent resistance to radial crushing, making it suitable for multi-layer drum winding where rope-on-rope pressure is a concern.

5. Reduced Internal Friction & Heat Generation

The smooth, line-contact wire arrangement within each strand minimizes internal friction, reducing heat generation during operation – a critical factor for high-speed winching and continuous duty cycles.

6. Smooth Surface for Reduced Equipment Wear

The compacted outer surface has a larger contact area with sheaves and drums, distributing loads evenly and significantly reducing wear on both the rope and the equipment.

7. Excellent Spooling & Layering

The uniform, smooth surface ensures superior spooling on drums, reducing the risk of crushing, overlapping, and uneven layering during multi-layer winding.

8. Corrosion Protection Options

Available in both bright (ungalvanized) and hot-dip galvanized finishes, with galvanization providing enhanced corrosion resistance for prolonged exposure to saltwater, humidity, and marine atmospheres.
