8×K19S Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope

Product Description

8×K19S Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope

Product Introduction:

The 8×K19S Class Compacted Strand Wire Rope represents a groundbreaking advancement in wire rope technology for the most demanding marine, offshore, and heavy-lifting applications. Manufactured in strict accordance with YB/T 5359-2020 – the Chinese national standard for compacted strand ropes – this 8-strand design offers a unique combination of superior flexibility, exceptional rotational resistance, and outstanding resistance to crushing, making it the ultimate choice for single-layer and multi-layer drum winding, crane hoisting, and deep-water offshore operations.

Unlike the more common 6-strand configurations, the 8×K19S Class features eight strands laid around the core, providing a more rounded cross-section, better load distribution, and significantly reduced rotation under load. This makes it particularly valuable for applications where rope stability and torque resistance are critical – such as tower cranes, offshore pedestal cranes, and high-speed winches.

Construction & Design:

The 8×K19S Class wire rope features an 8-strand Seale (S) construction, with each strand composed of 19 wires arranged in a classic Seale configuration: 1 + 9 + 9. The Seale design features two layers of wires of identical diameter – an inner layer of 9 wires and an outer layer of 9 wires – with the outer wires seated in the valleys between the inner wires, creating a surface-contact arrangement that provides exceptional resistance to abrasion and crushing while maintaining good flexibility.

The Rope Is Available With Two Core Options:

*FC (Fibre Core) – Provides excellent flexibility, internal lubrication, and shock absorption, ideal for applications requiring maximum bending fatigue performance

*IWRC (Independent Wire Rope Core) – Delivers higher breaking loads, reduced stretch, and superior resistance to crushing and heat, perfect for high-tension and multi-layer winding operations

The compacting process – achieved through precision die-drawing or roller-compacting – densifies each strand, increasing the metallic cross-sectional area while creating an exceptionally smooth, uniform outer surface. The 8-strand compacted construction results in a more circular rope cross-section with less out-of-roundness, ensuring even load distribution across all strands and reducing wear on sheaves and drums.

Core Advantages:

1. Superior Rotational Resistance

The 8-strand configuration significantly reduces the rope’s tendency to rotate under load compared to 6-strand ropes. This is critical for single-part hoisting, tower cranes, and applications where load spinning or kinking must be minimized.

2. Exceptional Crush & Deformation Resistance

With eight strands supporting the core, the 8×K19S Class offers outstanding resistance to crushing and flattening – even more than 6-strand compacted ropes. This makes it the preferred choice for multi-layer drum winding where rope-on-rope pressure is severe, and for applications with high radial loads.

3. Superior Abrasion Resistance

The Seale construction places larger, equal-diameter wires on the outer layer, providing a dense, wear-resistant surface. Combined with compaction, this rope delivers exceptional service life in abrasive marine environments, such as dragging on deck edges or contact with rough surfaces.

4. High Breaking Load from Compaction

The compacted strand structure increases the metallic cross-sectional area, delivering a substantially higher breaking load – typically 20–30% above conventional non-compacted ropes of the same diameter.

5. Excellent Flexibility & Bending Fatigue

Despite its high strength and crush resistance, the 8×K19S Class maintains excellent flexibility, with a bending fatigue performance comparable to the highly flexible 6×36 class. This allows operation over smaller sheaves and drums without sacrificing durability.

6. Smooth Spooling & Reduced Equipment Wear

The compacted, smooth outer surface and the near-perfect circular cross-section ensure superior spooling on drums, reducing the risk of crushing, overlapping, and uneven layering. The larger contact area with sheaves distributes loads evenly, minimizing wear on both the rope and the equipment.

7. Low Constructional Stretch

The compacted strands and Seale wire arrangement provide very low structural stretch, ensuring precise load control and minimal elongation under tension – crucial for crane operations requiring accurate positioning.

8. Corrosion Protection Options

Available in both bright (ungalvanized) and hot-dip galvanized finishes, with galvanization offering robust protection against saltwater corrosion, humidity, and marine atmospheric conditions.
