Product Description

H42-81 Marine Epoxy Deck Paint

Product Introduction:

H42-81 is a two-pack, hard-wearing epoxy deck paint specifically formulated to provide a tough, glossy, and decorative protective coating for marine deck areas and deck fittings. This high-performance finish offers exceptional abrasion and impact resistance, ensuring long-lasting durability under the demanding conditions of heavy foot traffic, equipment movement, and constant exposure to seawater and weathering. With a low VOC content of less than 400 g/L, it meets modern environmental regulations without sacrificing performance. The coating exhibits excellent adhesion to properly prepared epoxy primer surfaces and provides a smooth, attractive gloss finish that enhances the appearance of vessels while delivering reliable corrosion protection. Its versatile formulation allows for application in newbuilding projects, as well as routine maintenance and onboard repair work. The product cures to a hard, resilient film that withstands mechanical wear, chemical spills, and UV exposure (though some chalking may occur over time), ensuring a lasting finish that maintains both aesthetics and protection for marine decks.

This two-pack product is supplied with a mix ratio of 2.3:1 by volume (4:1 by weight). It dries to a glossy finish with a volume solids content of 53% ± 2%. For application, airless spray is recommended using a tip size of 0.38–0.53 mm and an output pressure of ≥15 MPa; air spray is also suitable with a tip size of 1.5–2.0 mm and pressure ≥0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is limited to small touch-up areas only. Thinning is not recommended for routine use—if absolutely necessary, HX-501 may be added at a maximum of 5% by volume; HX-501 is also used as the equipment cleaner. An induction period of 30 minutes at 10°C, 20 minutes at 25°C, or 10 minutes at 35°C is required before application. For storage, keep the product in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, protected from sunlight, heat, and open flames, with containers tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months minimum at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter). Packaging: Part A is supplied as 22.8 kg / 14 L in a 20 L container; Part B is 5.7 kg / 6 L in a 6 L container. Flash point: >31°C for Part A, Part B, and mixed paint.

Intended Uses:

*As a tough cosmetic finish for decks and deck fittings.

*Suitable for newbuilding, maintenance and repair, or onboard maintenance operations.

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces must be cleaned with high-pressure fresh water or fresh water wash, followed by solvent cleaning per SSPC-SP1 to remove all oil, grease, soluble contaminants, and other foreign matter. The surface to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from contamination.

For Newbuilding / Major Refurbishment:

H42-81 should be applied over a recommended primer coating system. The primer surface must be clean, dry, and uncontaminated, and the topcoat must be applied within the specified overcoating window (consult the relevant product data sheet). Damaged or broken areas should be prepared to at least St3 standard and primed before applying H42-81.

For Repair / Onboard Maintenance:

H42-81 should be applied over a recommended primer system following the same preparation and overcoating rules as for newbuilding. Alternatively, H42-81 may be applied directly over aged H42-81 coatings, provided the old film is intact and firmly adherent. Loose or flaking paint must be removed back to a sound edge, and the area should be repaired with H42-81 or an appropriate primer before the full topcoat is applied.

Application Limitations:

1.This product will not cure adequately below 5°C. For maximum performance, the ambient curing temperature should be above 10°C.

2.Do not apply when ambient relative humidity exceeds 85%.

3.The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point at all times during application.

4.Like all epoxy-based coatings, H42-81 will exhibit chalking (surface powdering) upon prolonged UV exposure.

5.Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary according to actual site conditions.

6.Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapors and paint mist. Prevent skin and eye contact. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire-prevention measures during application.
