Product Description
BE50-33 Marine Copper-Free Low Friction Self-Polishing Antifouling Coating
Product Introduction:
BE50-33 is a state-of-the-art, copper-free, low-friction self-polishing antifouling coating engineered to deliver exceptional fouling protection while significantly reducing underwater drag for enhanced vessel fuel efficiency. Unlike conventional antifouling paints that rely on copper-based biocides, BE50-33 utilizes an advanced alternative biocide system that provides effective and sustained protection against a broad spectrum of marine organisms including barnacles, algae, tubeworms, and slime, without introducing copper into the marine environment. This makes it an ideal choice for environmentally sensitive waters and for vessels with aluminium hulls or outdrives that are susceptible to copper-induced galvanic corrosion. The unique low-friction surface, generated by the self-polishing copolymer technology, maintains an exceptionally smooth hull profile throughout the coating's service life, minimising frictional resistance and delivering measurable fuel savings over extended periods. With a VOC content of less than 420g/L, BE50-33 meets stringent global environmental standards while providing robust, long-term antifouling and anti-corrosion protection. The coating is supplied as a convenient single-pack formulation with a volume solids content of 55% ± 2%, and is available in three standard colours: Grey (E330G), Blue (E330B), and Red (E330R), with a matt finish. No induction period is required prior to application.
Intended Uses:
BE50-33 is versatile and suitable for a broad range of marine applications, including:
*Newbuilding – ideal for application on newly constructed vessels of all types.
*Maintenance and Repair – suitable for dry-dock repair and refit projects.
*On Board Maintenance – can be applied during routine in-service upkeep.
Method Of Application:
For application of BE50-33, airless spray is recommended, with a tip size range of 0.48–0.63mm and an output pressure of at least 17 MPa. Air spray may also be used, requiring a tip size of 2.0–3.0mm and an output pressure of no less than 0.4 MPa. Brush or roller application is acceptable for small-area use only. The use of thinner is not recommended; however, in exceptional circumstances, HX-501 may be added at a maximum volume of 5%. HX-501 should also be used as the equipment cleaner.

Surface Preparation:
For Newbuilding: BE50-33 should be applied over a recommended tie-coat scheme. The coating surface must be clean, dry, and free from contamination. Application must be carried out within the specified overcoating interval. Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (e.g., St3) and primed prior to the application of BE50-33.
For Repair: BE50-33 may be applied directly over aged BE50-33 coatings, provided the existing coating is intact and tightly adherent. Loose or flaking coatings should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface must be thoroughly fresh-water washed and degreased. An appropriate primer should be used to repair damaged areas before applying the full coat.
Application Conditions & Limitations:
Apply in good weather conditions. The surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and ambient relative humidity should be below 85%. For hull sections exposed to direct sunlight, the final coat of BE50-33 should be immersed within 30 days after drying. If this period is exceeded, antifouling performance may be impaired. Drying times and overcoating intervals may vary depending on actual site environmental conditions. Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapours and paint mist. Do not allow contact with skin or eyes. Ensure adequate ventilation and take fire prevention measures during application.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Containers must remain tightly sealed. Shelf life is 12 months at 25°C (subject to re-inspection thereafter).
