Because the decks of most commercial ships are far above the waterline, a pilot rope ladder was  designed for pilot

to embark and disembark safely.In case of high freeboard (more than 9m), the pilot ladder shall be combined with an accommodation ladder, When not being used, the pilot ladder is stowed away (usually rolled up) rather than left hanging.

DEYUAN MARINE offered two types of pilot ladders for option,one  is hard wood pilot rope ladders, the other one is aluminium pilot ladders. The design and construction of the two pilot ladders are tightly specified by international regulation under the SOLAS regime.
