Product Description
Y53-01 Marine Anticorrosive Oil
Product Introduction:
Y53-01 Anticorrosive Oil is a single-pack, ready-to-use varnish-type protective coating formulated with petroleum resin, specialized additives, and selected solvents. It is specifically engineered to provide temporary corrosion protection for shipboard oil tanks — including both lubricating oil tanks and fuel oil tanks — during newbuilding, maintenance, and repair periods, as well as for on-board maintenance campaigns during vessel service life.
Unlike permanent anticorrosive coatings such as epoxies or polyurethanes, this product is designed as a removable, temporary protective layer. Its primary purpose is to shield clean steel surfaces from atmospheric corrosion (rusting) during the construction phase or during maintenance intervals when tanks are opened for inspection or repair. The coating prevents moisture and oxygen from reaching the steel substrate, ensuring that the tank interior remains in pristine condition until the vessel is commissioned or returned to service. When the tank is ready for operation, this temporary coating can be readily removed by solvent washing or oil dissolution, leaving no residue that could contaminate the stored product.
The formulation offers a low VOC content of less than 300g/L, contributing to improved worker safety and reduced environmental impact during enclosed-space application. It produces a glossy, brown translucent film with excellent flow and leveling characteristics, ensuring uniform coverage even on complex geometries such as weld seams, stiffeners, and corners. Being a single-pack product, it eliminates on-site mixing and reduces preparation time, making it particularly suitable for shipyard production lines and rapid turnaround maintenance schedules.
Key Features & Benefits:
1.Temporary Protection: Provides effective rust prevention for oil tank interiors during construction, outfitting, and maintenance intervals, safeguarding assets from corrosion damage.
2.Easy Removal: The oil-based varnish film can be readily dissolved and washed away with compatible solvents or simply flushed with the first cargo of oil, leaving no harmful residues.
3.Single-Pack Convenience: No mixing required — ready to apply straight from the container, reducing labor time and eliminating mixing errors.
4.Thin-Film Application: Designed for standard dry film thickness of 25μm (range 20–30μm), providing economical coverage with theoretical application rates of up to 17.6 m²/L at standard DFT.
5.Rapid Curing: Dries to touch within 1 hour at 25°C and achieves hard dry in 6 hours, enabling fast turnaround between coating and subsequent operations.
Film Thickness & Theoretical Coverage:
| Parameter | Minimum | Standard | Maximum |
| Dry Film Thickness (DFT) | 20 μm | 25 μm | 30 μm |
| Wet Film Thickness (WFT) | 45 μm | 56 μm | 68 μm |
| Theoretical Coverage | 22 m²/L | 17.6 m²/L | 14.7 m²/L |
Drying & Overcoating Data:

| Overcoating - Max | 14d | 10d | 7d | 5d |
Application & Curing:
1.Mixing Ratio: Single-pack — no mixing required.
2.Application Methods: Airless spray is recommended with tip size 0.38–0.53mm and output pressure ≥17MPa. Air spray (tip 2.0–3.0mm, ≥0.3MPa) and brush/roller (for small areas) are also acceptable. Thinner (YX-501) is not recommended except in exceptional cases (max 5% by volume).
Surface Preparation:
*Newbuilding: Remove weld spatter and smooth weld seams and sharp edges. Blast clean to Sa2.5 (GB/T 8923.1-2011); weld seams must be cleaned to Sa3 (GB/T 8923.1-2011) using power tools. Apply the coating before oxidation occurs on the freshly blasted surface — reblasting is required if oxidation has already taken place.
*All Surfaces: The substrate must be clean, dry, and free from all contaminants such as oil, grease, dust, and soluble salts.
Packaging, Storage & Safety:
*Pack Size: 18.1kg/20L in a 20L container.
*Flash Point: >31°C (combustible — handle with appropriate care).
*Shelf Life: 12 months minimum at 25°C, stored in cool, dry, ventilated conditions away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames.
Limitations:
1.Incomplete curing below 0°C — for maximum performance, curing temperature should be above 5°C.
2.Apply when surface temperature is at least 3°C above dew point and relative humidity is below 85%.
3.Not intended as a permanent coating for immersion service — this is strictly a temporary protective product.
4.Avoid prolonged inhalation of solvent vapors; ensure adequate ventilation and fire prevention measures during application, as the product is combustible.
