The S802 Safety Barrier acts as a passive, galvanic isolation device installed at the boundary between a "safe area" (e.g., the vessel's bridge) and a "hazardous area" (e.g., a cargo deck or pump room). It is wired in series with the sound-powered telephone line. Its core function is to limit the electrical energy (current and voltage) that could potentially be transmitted into the hazardous area from the safe-area side of the circuit. In the unlikely event of a fault or dangerous voltage surge in the safe area, the barrier prevents sufficient energy from reaching the hazardous area, thereby eliminating any risk of ignition in the explosive atmosphere.
