Product Description

8702-5 Marine Anodic Shield Coating

Product Introduction:

The 8702-5 is a high-performance, two-pack epoxy coating engineered specifically for demanding marine and industrial environments. It is formulated as a 100% solids, solvent-free system (zero VOC), making it an environmentally responsible choice for critical protection applications. This coating cures rapidly to form a hard, abrasion-resistant film that provides exceptional electrical insulation and corrosion protection. It is primarily designed as a shielding coating for auxiliary anodes in impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems on vessels, and also serves as a reliable protective layer for pipe joints, flange connections, and steel structures. Additionally, its high-build, gap-filling properties make it ideal for repairing cavities caused by cavitation erosion, pitting, or mechanical damage on hulls and offshore steelwork. With excellent adhesion to properly prepared steel and good chemical resistance, this product ensures long-term durability in seawater and atmospheric exposure.

Intended Uses:

*Shielding coating for auxiliary anodes in marine impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems.

*Protective coating for pipe joints, couplings, and flange faces.

*Filling and leveling of voids, cavities, and pitting corrosion damage on ship hulls and steel structural members.

Pack Size & Flash Point:

*Pack Size: Part A – 4 kg / 3 L in a 4 L container; Part B – 4 kg / 3 L in a 4 L container.

*Flash Point: None (non-flammable).

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free from any contaminants. Remove oil, grease, soluble salts, and other foreign matter by high-pressure fresh water washing or appropriate fresh water rinsing, followed by solvent cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP1 (Solvent Cleaning) standards. For optimal adhesion and performance, ensure the substrate is thoroughly dried before application.

Application & Handling Notes:

1.Mixing: Combine Part A and Part B at a 1:1 mass ratio and mix thoroughly until uniform.

2.Application: This product is designed for scraping/ trowelling only. Spray or roller application is not recommended.

3.Pot Life: The usable working time is temperature-dependent (see table above). Mix only the amount that can be applied within the pot life.

4.Thinning: Do not add thinners. Use only HX-501 cleaner for equipment cleaning.

Curing & Environmental Limitations:

1.Minimum Curing Temperature: This product does not cure adequately below 5°C. For best mechanical and chemical resistance, the ambient curing temperature should be above 10°C.

2.Humidity & Dew Point: Apply only in good weather conditions. The relative humidity must be below 85%, and the substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point to prevent moisture entrapment.

3.Reactivation of Thickened Components: If Part A (white) has thickened, dried, or become grainy, place it in a forced-air drying oven at approximately 80°C, stir intermittently until normal viscosity returns, then cool to room temperature before use. If Part B (yellow) becomes too viscous at low temperatures, warm it in an oven at about 80°C for a short period (do not overheat), then allow it to return to room temperature before mixing.

4.Overcoating Intervals: Drying and recoat times may vary depending on actual site conditions (temperature, humidity, film thickness). Observe the minimum and maximum overcoating windows provided in the table.

Safety & Precautions:

1.Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, protective clothing).

2.Ensure adequate ventilation during mixing and application.

3.Although non-flammable (no flash point), observe standard fire prevention measures when handling any coating materials.

4.Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and open flames. Keep containers tightly sealed when not in use.
