China's Shipbuilding Industry Continues To Grow Steadily In Three Major Indicators

The latest data on the shipbuilding industry in the first three quarters of 2024 released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on the 10th showed that the three major indicators of China's shipbuilding industry continued to grow steadily.
From January to September 2024, China's shipbuilding completion volume was 36.34 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%; the number of new orders was 87.11 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 51.9%; as of the end of September, the number of orders on hand was 193.30 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 44.3%.
From January to September, China's three major shipbuilding indicators, measured in deadweight tonnage, accounted for 55.1%, 74.7% and 61.4% of the global total respectively.
It is worth noting that China has taken over 70% of the world's green ship orders and achieved full coverage of mainstream ship types. Green, high value-added and exclusive technologies have become the new highlights of China's shipbuilding industry in the first three quarters.
Li Yanqing, Secretary General of China Shipbuilding Industry Association, said that whether in design and construction or supporting services, the country should accelerate technological innovation and application of new technologies to turn to green and high-end ships. After the green transformation, the value of the three major ship types, bulk carriers, oil tankers and container ships, has increased, which is a very important factor in the profitability of Chinese ships.
The data also shows that among the 18 major ship types in the world, China ranks first in the world in terms of new orders for 14 types. All shipyards have completed their operating targets for this year ahead of schedule, and market demand is growing rapidly.
