What to do if the hydraulic oil is not adequate

Hydraulic drive system plays an important role in industry, sometimes we may meet an "interesting" problem, the hydraulic oil is not very adequate. What to do with it? of course, to buy more is the best options, but not for those hope to save money or not convenient to get the hydraulic oil. I know most of you will not meet this problem, bust just suppose if you were in such dilemma, what will you do?

As we known, we must ensure all pipelines are full of the hydraulic if we hope the system work normally, it is necessary and sufficient conditions. So if hope to economize hydraulic oil for our hydraulic systems(hydraulic capstan for example), we only need to ensure there is oil remaining in the oil tank while the machine working.

So here show a method to calculate a approximate value that minimum hydraulic oil needed.

Step1: measure the top height of the outlet of oil tank H1;

Step2: measure the middle height of the oil tank H;

Step3: inject hydraulic oil into the oil tank up to the middle line H2, record the volume of has been injected O. (assume the O value is perfect for system);

Step4: start the system, measure the declining Height difference H2;

The minimum hydraulic oil X should be Consumed quantity+Over outlet quantity,

While          Consumed quantity=O*H2/H;  and,

                   Over outlet quantity=O*H1/H,

So               X=O*H2/H+O*H1/H=O*(H1+H2)/H;

If the H1 and H2 can not be measured very accurately, must consider compensation insurance height value H3, so,

The final X=O*(H1+H2+H3)/H;

If meet difficult to measure heights referred above, please try to solve it, but must be safe.

The case is not kidding, one of our customer(6T hydraulic capstans) did meet this problem, so i hope to share this article.
