Main Steps in Designing Floating Airbags for Marine Projects

The application of using flotation airbags to provide buoyancy is very extensive. However, for specific implementation, most manufacturers are still at the level of very primitive estimates. They can provide more suitable airbag specifications based on experience and some simple calculations. The project can be finally realized, but due to the lack of comprehensive scientific calculation, many details need to be adjusted on site, increasing the difficulty of construction, affecting the progress of the project, and there are certain risks. In order to make the floating project more smooth, safe and reliable, the company has summed up a relatively complete program design process based on rich experience and the spirit of continuous improvement.

1. Clear Purpose

There are many application scenarios that require the use of flotation-assisting airbags, such as shipwreck salvage, one-time large-scale building maritime transportation, periodic ups and downs and transfer operations, etc. The requirements are different from the lashing method, so the first step must be clear about the purpose of the project.

2. Design the appropriate airbag size and required quantity according to the weight and structural size of the target object.

To float the target object, the buoyant force provided by the airbag is equal to the weight of the object minus its own buoyancy. However, the buoyancy provided by the object itself varies with the height at which the object needs to surface and the depth of the part remaining in the water. The relationship requires more accurate calculation to ensure that the posture and state of the object in the water meet the requirements of the project. General airbag manufacturers cannot meet such design requirements. The diameter and length of the individual bladders are constrained by the structure and size of the target object, and consideration needs to be given to how to place these bladders so that the object floats reliably and smoothly in the water, as well as the portion above the water. The specific number of airbags also needs to be considered to have a sufficient safety factor.

3. The design of the binding tape

If possible, the installation position of the airbag should be designed with the convenience of ligation at the same time. After the position is determined, according to the number of airbags, consider how to combine and how to transmit the buoyancy to the target object through the ligature. There are three application states of the straps: airbag combination straps, fixed straps between the airbag and the object, and buoyancy transfer straps. The breaking force of the buoyancy transfer straps is several times the working buoyancy to ensure safety, and the general safety factor is more than 6 . The number of straps should be considered to transfer the buoyancy of each air bag to the target more evenly. The length of each strap needs to be accurately measured using auxiliary software such as CAD. The strap also uses a connecting shackle, and in some applicable occasions, an adjustable lock can also be used.

4. Inflatable components

The placement of the airbag needs to consider its state before and after inflation. The sequence of inflation and placement of the airbag is determined by the construction requirements. The design of the strap must also take this into account to ensure the smooth inflation of the airbag. If you need to inflate in water, you need to consider the balance of the buoyancy of the object to avoid tilting or even overturning. This requires the airbags located at the balance point to be inflated synchronously. We can provide an inflation manifold device to allow multiple airbags to be inflated at the same time.

Summarize:

The application of airbags for flotation is a very important marine project. When purchasing airbag products, a relatively complete design scheme is required. Regardless of whether the project is self-constructed or not, the airbag provider must help the customer to improve the project with a high degree of responsibility, so as to ensure the smooth progress of the customer's project, obtain a good reputation, and obtain more related projects, thereby The use of airbag providers also gains trust and development. A good win-win situation requires us to continue to work hard and get praise from orders and customers with more professional business capabilities.
