 Instruction of Ship lighting system classification


Ship lighting is a necessary condition for navigation, operation and life of ship management personnel. Ship lighting usually includes the safety of navigation and the safety of personnel (such as navigation lights, signal lights, area lighting of the landing craft), the lighting of the work place of the ship (such as the driving table, the cabin, deck and deck lighting), as well as the lighting in the living area.


The ship lighting system is different from the land lighting system, generally divided into main lighting, emergency lighting, temporary lighting and navigation lights.


Ship lighting can be classified as follows according to its function.

(1) indoor lighting: main cabin lighting, partial auxiliary lighting, entertainment and beautifying atmosphere lighting;

(2) outdoor lighting: outdoor channel lighting, outdoor working lighting (deck lighting);

(3) searchlights and floodlights;

(4) navigation lights.


It can also be divided into the mode of power supply:

(1) normal lighting (the main power supply of the ship);

(2) emergency lighting (emergency power supply, in which emergency lighting power supply can be divided into: distributed emergency generator power supply, the battery group power supply);

(3) temporary emergency lighting (commonly known as small emergency lighting; Battery pack power for half an hour);

(4) navigation lights (normal and emergency power supply).


The design of the lighting system shall be based on the requirements of the ship's classification regulations regarding lighting and navigation signals and the relevant provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
